Daily Patrick Henry

When the American spirit was in its youth, the language of America was different; liberty, sir, was then the primary object... We drew the spirit of liberty from our British ancestors; by that spirit we have triumphed over every difficulty. But now, sir, the American spirit, assisted by the ropes and chains of consolidation, is about to convert this country into a powerful and mighty empire. If you make the citizens of this country agree to become the subjects of one great consolidated empire of America, your government will not have sufficient energy to keep them together. DHS Sued over drones in US

The US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has been sued by an American Internet privacy advocacy group for its refusal to explain the use of Predator drones inside the United States.

The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) announced on Wednesday that it has filed a legal suit against the DHS in an effort to to gain access to information about the killer drones, which have been lent to domestic law-enforcement departments by the federal agency.

EFF said that the suit was filed in a San Francisco federal court following DHS’s failure to respond to its Freedom of Information Act request for more details about the function of the pilotless aircraft within US borders.

According to the report, “a DHS division uses unmanned drones in the United States to patrol borders,” but there are reports that drone missions have been conducted “on behalf of local and federal law enforcement agencies.”

"Drones are a powerful surveillance tool that can be used to gather extensive data about you and your activities," said EFF Staff Attorney Jennifer Lynch, as quoted in the report.

"The public needs to know more about how and why these Predator drones are being used to watch US citizens," she added.

Furthermore, the EFF says it is also suing the US Federal Aviation Administration to obtain the latest details on the authorizations it has granted for the domestic use of the drones.
